\nAndrew Reasoner wildlife refuge is a private 300-acre spread . Wandering Bare has spoken to the owners and they have given the go-ahead for nude hiking. They will close the refuge for the time that we are ther e. You can walk naked feeling completely secure! You can’t get much better than that! The owners only ask not to be naked near the road or when in s ight of the neighbors\, other than that we have free reign of the refuge!< /p>\n
The Andrew Reasoner Wildlife Preserve Conservation Easement protec ts 294 acres of oak savannah and in the Long Tom River watershed. Seasonal creeks\, rocky outcroppings\, and a special forest management area provid e a home for iconic Oregon white oak trees and Willamette Valley ponderosa pine\, native birds\, elks\, deer\, and more. The oak woodlands on the property make it a great home for ma ny species of wildlife native to the Willamette Valley. Because of the los s of most of the oak savannah habitat in the region\, the remaining oaks l ike those found on the Andrew Reasoner Wildlife Preserve are increasingly important. Critical species on the property include acorn woodpecker\, chi pping sparrow\, yellow-breasted chat\, western bluebird\, slender-billed n uthatch\, Western gray squirrel\, shaggy horkelia\, and Hitchcock’s blue-e yed grass. Deer\, bobcat\, cougar\, bear\, rattlesnake\, and many species of migratory birds also visit or make their homes on the property.
\nWandering Bare will be Celebrating May Day with a naked natu
re walk at Finley Wildlife Refuge. And pay honor to the two greatest socia
l icons of all time. Groucho Marx – “I don’t want to belong to any club\,
that will accept me as a member.” And John Lennon – “You don’t need anybod
y to tell you who you are or what you are. You are what you are!”
\n(
Weather and Authorities permitting*)
Finley Wildlife refuge is big \, it’s really big with open spaces. Offering plenty of space to enjoy a s ecluded naked walk or wander bare. The refuge is usually deserted since mo st people visiting are there in the morning and evening when the birds and wildlife is more active. We have met a few textiled visitors in the past\ , it’s usually not a problem.
\nWe will enter the reserve on the Bea
ver & Cattail Ponds trailhead located at a turnout off Bruce Road.
\n
Beaver & Cattail Ponds Trail. We’ll enter the reserve\, walking down a tre
e-lined service road to an old rock quarry site. Then through the Maple Kn
oll Research Natural Area and on the Beaver Pond.
\nAt the interior s
ervice road or\, “Campbell Lake Trail” this trail runs through the reserve
and ties the Mill Hill Loop\, Pigeon Butte Trails and the Campbell Board
Walk.
\nWe’ll have no addenda\, just a chance to spend a peaceful aft
ernoon wandering bare through natural world of Finley Wildlife Refuge.
* Weather and Authorities permitting. Weather\, If is raining we’ll r eschedule. Authorities permitting? “Question Authority” Up the revaluation !

\nWhy Pick Blueberries n

only to skinny-dipping\, of family-friendly nudist activities. Picking ber

\nPlease maintain at least a 6-foot di

this year: the Dept of Ag says “do not eat fruit while picking\,” and “do
not touch fruit that you will not pick.” Dang. Sorry about that.
\nD
on’t come if you are sick\, or have been in contact with someone who is si

Members are always welcome to sit in on the Executive Board meetings.

\nThe north side of Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge is
a very pleasant and relaxing place to walk naked.
\nThis loop trail
is 3.2 miles\, can be easily walked in under 2 hours. Starting at the park
ing area located at Smithfield and Livermore Road. Beginning with a walk u
p a gravel road a short distance to the banks of Morgan Lake. The trail bo

\nWalking down the north side of Baskett Butte the trail will connect wi
th the Moffitti Marsh Trail leading back to Smithfield Road. A second lap
is always possible.
\nThe reserve is usually pretty much deserted in
the early afternoon. Other people out walking can be easily spotted in the
open spaces giving us plenty of time to cover up. This will be the 4th su

area.
The Luckiamute River meanders through the 615-acre north tra ct\, flowing into the Willamette River from the west and just a stone’s th row from the Santiam River confluence from the east. Hikers can park at th e North Trailhead and take the 3-mile North Unit Loop trail along a meadow and through a hardwood forest of Oregon ash and maple.

\nWandering Bare will celebrate National Naked Hiking Day with a naked hike up to Rooster Rock. Our trek will start at the Trout Creek T rail Head. Since the parking lot will only hold a few cars we’ll meet at t he Rooster Rock Trail Head about 2 miles east on Hwy 20 and then carpool t o the Trout Creek Trail Head. The hike is about 5 miles of steady ascent a nd 3 miles back down. You know you are getting close to the top when the m adrones start to become immersed in the Douglas firs you’ve been seeing th e whole way up. Just shy of the top stands the andesite and basalt pillar is known as Rooster Rock (not to be confused with its namesake in the Colu mbia River Gorge). Another 100 yards up\, and we’ve reached our goal. Ther e is a fantastic view looking out over the South Santiam canyon\, and the Three Sisters peek above the hills. After we’ve enjoyed the scenery\, it’s time for the descent. Now that the uphill battle has been fought and won. You can notice the finesse of the forest\, including Indian pipe\, dragon flies\, centipedes\, wild berries\, and perhaps a spotted owl or hairy woo dpecker. All in all\, the hike will leave you with a sense of accomplishme nt\, an incredible naked hiking escape into a serene and uncrowded natural area.
