tive birds\, elks\, deer\, and more.
The oak woodlands on the property make it a great home for many species
of wildlife native to the Willamette Valley. Because of the loss of most
of the oak savannah habitat in the region\, the remaining oaks like those

ig with open spaces. Offering plenty of space to enjoy a secluded naked wa
lk or wander bare. The refuge is usually deserted since most people visiti
ng are there in the morning and evening when the birds and wildlife is mor
e active. We have met a few textiled visitors in the past\, it’s usually n
ot a problem.\nWe will enter the reserve on the Beaver & Cattail Ponds tra
ilhead located at a turnout off Bruce Road.\nBeaver & Cattail Ponds Trail.

DESCRIPTION:Join Wandering Bare as we ride naked in the High Desert sun for
an exciting afternoon of Naked Mountain Biking. The horse butte trail is
a 10-mile loop trail. This ride is shorter and less altitude gain than the
Coyote Loop trail we rode last summer. Riding naked through Central Orego
n’s Desert Sage and Ponderosa pine Forests. All riding skill levels are we
lcome. We ride on seldom-used forest service roads and trails\, rarely mee
ting other riders or hikers.\nMeet at Boyd Cave parking area about a quart
er-mile north of China Hat Road where the pavement ends.\nHow to find us\n
From Hwy 97 southbound\, Exit onto Knotts Rd. travel East. Turn right onto
China Hat Rd. Turn Left onto Boyd Cave access Rd just before the cattle g
uard where the pavement ends. The parking area is about a quarter-mile nor
th of China Hat Rd.\nThis 10-mile ride will start at Boyd Cave on China Ha
t Rd. Ride west towards Horse Butte then return east to Boyd Cave.\nNaked

very pleasant and relaxing place to walk naked.\nThis loop trail is 3.2 mi
les\, can be easily walked in under 2 hours. Starting at the parking area
located at Smithfield and Livermore Road. Beginning with a walk up a grave
l road a short distance to the banks of Morgan Lake. The trail borders the
edge of farm fields as we start our way up the north side of Baskett Butt
e. The trail takes us to the top of Baskett Butte views of the north part
of the refuge\, seeing all of Morgan Lake and Moffitti Marsh.\nWalking dow
n the north side of Baskett Butte the trail will connect with the Moffitti
Marsh Trail leading back to Smithfield Road. A second lap is always possi
ble.\nThe reserve is usually pretty much deserted in the early afternoon.
Other people out walking can be easily spotted in the open spaces giving u
s plenty of time to cover up. This will be the 4th summer we’ve walked nak
ed at Baskett Slough Refuge\, never had a bad experience with other people

DESCRIPTION:Finley Wildlife refuge is big\, it’s really big\, 5\,325 acres
of open space. With habitats ranging from wetlands to upland oak savanna\,
a diverse array of birdlife\, mammals and plants. Offering plenty of spac
e to enjoy a secluded\, refreshing and relaxing afternoon of Wandering Bar
e. The refuge is usually deserted\, most people visiting are there in the
morning and evening when the birds and wildlife is more active. We have me
t a few textiled visitors in the past\, it’s usually not a problem.\nWe wi
ll enter the reserve on the Beaver & Cattail Ponds trailhead located at a
turnout off Bruce Road.\nThis leisurely walk we’ll visit the Refuge’s dive
rse habitats\, starting with the woodsy path to the Beaver and Cattail Pon
ds\, then continuing on the service road towards Cabell Marsh. From there
we’ll turn south onto another service road\, wandering past agricultural f
ields in route to Pigeon Butte\, the Refuge’s highest point. The top affor
ds great views of the valley and portions of the Cascade and Coast Ranges.
The butte’s gentle slopes are good places to spot threatened and endanger
ed flora such as Golden paintbrush and Willamette Daisy\, not to mention l
upine and other wildflowers. A short cross-country descent of a hillside m
eadow will return us to the Cattail Ponds Trail and parking area. Spending
a peaceful afternoon Wandering Bare through natural environment of Finley

fe refuge is big\, it’s really big\, 5\,325 acres of open space. With habi
tats ranging from wetlands to upland oak savanna\, a diverse array of bird
life\, mammals and plants. Offering plenty of space to enjoy a secluded\,
refreshing and relaxing afternoon of Wandering Bare. The refuge is usually
deserted\, most people visiting are there in the morning and evening when
the birds and wildlife is more active. We have met a few textiled visitor
s in the past\, it’s usually not a problem.
\nWe will enter the reser
ve on the Beaver & Cattail Ponds trailhead located at a turnout off Bruce
Road.
\nThis leisurely walk we’ll visit the Refuge’s diverse habitats
\, starting with the woodsy path to the Beaver and Cattail Ponds\, then co
ntinuing on the service road towards Cabell Marsh. From there we’ll turn s
outh onto another service road\, wandering past agricultural fields in rou
te to Pigeon Butte\, the Refuge’s highest point. The top affords great vie
ws of the valley and portions of the Cascade and Coast Ranges. The butte’s
gentle slopes are good places to spot threatened and endangered flora suc
h as Golden paintbrush and Willamette Daisy\, not to mention lupine and ot
her wildflowers. A short cross-country descent of a hillside meadow will r
eturn us to the Cattail Ponds Trail and parking area. Spending a peaceful
afternoon Wandering Bare through natural environment of Finley Wildlife Re
fuge. Roughly 4 miles total.

NF-1815. Fallow NF-1815 to Horse Butte parking area on the left.\nRiding
naked into the sunset! The High Desert sunsets over the Cascade Mountains
are amazing. This portion of the Coyote loop trail starting and ending at
Horse Butte is 10-miles. This signal track trail has some challenging area
s for the experienced rider. However\, it is still not too tricky for the
novice rider. Starting at horse Butte\, we’ll ride east towards Boyd Cave.
Then riding west into the sunset\, stopping at a ridge top vantage point.
Watching the sun setting behind the Cascades. The trailhead is only a 15-
minute ride\, allowing us plenty of time to finish the ride before it gets
too dark. We have ridden this trail through the high desert several times
\, and it has always proved to be a fantastic adventure.\nNaked biking sho

naked hike up to Rooster Rock. Our trek will start at the Trout Creek Trai
l Head. Since the parking lot will only hold a few cars we’ll meet at the
Rooster Rock Trail Head about 2 miles east on Hwy 20 and then carpool to t
he Trout Creek Trail Head. The hike is about 5 miles of steady ascent and
3 miles back down. You know you are getting close to the top when the madr
ones start to become immersed in the Douglas firs you’ve been seeing the w
hole way up. Just shy of the top stands the andesite and basalt pillar is
known as Rooster Rock (not to be confused with its namesake in the Columbi
a River Gorge). Another 100 yards up\, and we’ve reached our goal. There i
s a fantastic view looking out over the South Santiam canyon\, and the Thr
ee Sisters peek above the hills. After we’ve enjoyed the scenery\, it’s ti
me for the descent. Now that the uphill battle has been fought and won. Yo
u can notice the finesse of the forest\, including Indian pipe\, dragonfli
es\, centipedes\, wild berries\, and perhaps a spotted owl or hairy woodpe
cker. All in all\, the hike will leave you with a sense of accomplishment\
, an incredible naked hiking escape into a serene and uncrowded natural ar

ger Mountain will be holding its traditional wine and cheese party on Frid
ay\, July 8
\nfeaturing international recording artist Jessica Alloss
ary. (check her out on Spotify) The
\nCanadian songstress will entert
ain the crowd with a mix of original music and familiar covers.
\nAs
usual\, music is included in the evening’s festivities. Bring a bottle of
your favorite beverage
\nto share and some cheese and crackers or you
r favorite hors d’oeuvres.
\n
On Saturday night\, we will be helping
the runners carb load and providing the rest of you with
\npasta\, sa
lad and bread to fuel up for the race. There is a $10 per plate donation f
or this event.
\nPlease join with us and local musician Dave Reynolds
as he shares some of his favorite songs
\nand yours after dinner.
\n
Sunday is the big race. If you have registered\, you can pick up you
r race packet beginning at
\n8:30 am.
\n
Race begins at 10:30- a
wards for all age categories and food trucks to keep you nourished through
out the day.

A race entry comes with a day pass to swim\, sun\, ch
ill and play!
\n

a late lunch before heading out to the Community Christmas Parade. After
the parade we will go to the community get-together and talk with folks ab
out SMR. Once we head back up to the club\, hot soup and bread will be wa
iting. After dinner\, we will have our usual gift exchange. Bring a $20 g
ift to swap. Games and such will commence after the gift exchange.
